The inimitable and hugely talented Kate Bush. Creatively fearless & original. Musing & incisive. Fiercely private and true to her inner beliefs and maternal values. Inspired & influenced by comedy, the gothic and strange tales of human sexuality.
A diversely gifted singer, songwriter, pianist, guitarist and violinist. Deeply alluring & often quite mesmerising – especially the expressions in her eyes. Making us wait for twelve long years while she so wisely brought up her son in a ‘normal’ environment, was almost too much to bear sometimes, but then she rewarded us all with “Aerial” – one of the most beautiful and crafted collections of music and lyrics ever written.

And here is the track 'Prologue' from Aerial...

I've been sad enough to also buy The Illustrated Guide To Kate Bush - it lists ever record, video and DVD ever released, both official and unofficial. I haven't got much of the bootleg stuff but am the proud owner of a near complete collection of Kate Bush vinyl. She's the one artist whose music I constantly return to over the years and it never fails to captivate and inspire me. I salute a fellow devotee!
Steve: There are much sadder things to do than this. I don't have a jealous bone in my body, but I covet you your prized collection here. Thanks again for the mention of the 'guide' above. I'm really going to slink off into town (Southampton) in a mo, and try and get hold of 'Under the Ivy'. She has become a living music legend in her own lifetime and I don't believe for a moment that she's closed the lid on her piano. I sometimes fantasise that she'll get together again with Peter Gabriel and put on a show or a DVD. Now I'm off to the butcher, the baker and the candle stick maker...
Back later.
You know what gets me (sorry this out of the blue)? How nobody really rated The Dreaming at the time - and it's an amazing album!
Bon Soiree Steve. Afternoon and evening bin hijacked by someone else’s car crash, a necessary change of plan, a visit to one of my favourite toy shops – The Farmers Market, purchase of spirited small cow, building of large bonfire, rustling up help from neighbouring tribe to help get cow into biggest cooking vessel, lighting fire with old flint in rain, regretting not running cow over earlier with family truck – ‘before’ wrestling into large cooking vessel, traipsing back and forth to river to fill up cook pot, cow making awful din all the time, then…after spending three hours back and forth from river…returning to find cooking pot fallen over…fire out…and absolutely no sign of ‘Cow’. Just dirty great steaming green turd in cook pot. “Merd!”, Wet, tired and irritated…had to resort to defrosting ready meal of frozen fois gras burgers and chips in microwave. Microwave batteries wore out in first ninety minutes so gave up and just warmed up spare vat of wine, threw in the still frosty fois gras…and jumped in after it. While floating around quietly…came up with idea for a future blog post title for you…”Don’t fart in my soup!”.
Enough!
“The Dreaming” - Thanks for this!. This is breaking news for me. Never seen nor heard it before. Just Youtubed it. Very dark. Can see why it didn’t sit so well with her wider fan base, but it still underlines her unique imagination and creativity, as well as her fascination with darker dimensions and alter life fantasy stuff. There are so many layers and levels to this mystical woman, and we will probably never be allowed to understand her inner universe.
One of my past fave tracks of Kate’s repertoire is “Sat in your lap”. Your comment about ‘The Dreamer’ subsequently led me to this Youtube link, and you really do need to take a look at this video. I just knew I’d seen you somewhere before Steve – as well as the hints of the KKK thing from earlier. Spooky Wooky stuff is this. Enjoy!!
Sent you an email earlier re your post “This is not the news”. I used the email address off your blog. It may not have worked. If you haven’t yet seen it, let me know when you’re able and redirect me accordingly.
Cheers -Phil

Loved it. Had to book mark it by posting it here.
And then I found this: I cannot believe 'I' missed this video for all of my whole life!!!!!
I know I bin sweeping up rubbish on dark side of moon for 'long time', but hey ho and here you go....Kate shows yet another side of her infinite curiosity with human sexuality, the curious and the experimental. Red Shoes. Red Herring. Dont care...

Ah... this is a trip down memory lane. Sat In Your Lap I well remember. I bought an VHS compilation of Kate Bush Videos back in the 80's - still have it - and this was always a favourite. I didn't really rate The Red Shoes at the time of release but hearing it again now gave me a real rush. Shall have to go and rediscover. The Gaelic Song was a new one on me - thank you for that. I heartily recommend you get your paws on The Dreaming. Kate's first 2 albums are her juvenalia - but from Never For Ever onwards her journey as a mature musician and song writer begins in earnest and The Dreaming is an astonishingly dark but beautiful album. Listen to it with all the lights off and immerse yourself.
Thank you for the email - found it last night when it was too late to reply (had just watched Sex, Drugs And Rock & Roll - a belter) but have replied this morning.
What a muppet I've been. I completely missed the fact that the youtube video I peeped at yesterday 'The Dreaming' was only one single track, and not the whole album! Thanks Steve - I will re charge my head and get hold of a copy as you suggest. I couldn't get over the sight of the dancing jesters in 'Sat in my lap'. I see why you kept the suit.
S,D & R &R was a belter. Tragic too. Watched the original 1944 Jane Eyre again last night. What a rich and beautiful film that was. My English teacher at school hired it as a cine reel projection one friday afternoon, after he'd spent a couple of weeks teaching us the finer points of Bronte's brilliant work. They'll never remake the film to better that.
